Brattleboro, VT — September 2024

In a heartfelt commitment to the well-being of its community, the Brattleboro Food Co-op is thrilled to announce the launch of the BFC Cares program this September. Designed to feed the heart of the Brattleboro community, this initiative will provide crucial support to local efforts aimed at ensuring everyone has access to nourishing food.

The BFC Cares program embodies the Co-op’s dedication to fostering a more equitable and sustainable food system. Through this new program, the Co-op will engage in meaningful contributions that not only alleviate hunger but also promote sustainable food practices. The overarching goal is to empower individuals and families to thrive by creating a more inclusive and resilient community.

“At the core of the Brattleboro Food Co-op is a deep-seated belief in the power of community,” says Amy Crawford, the Co-op’s Marketing & Community Relations Manager. “With BFC Cares, we are taking this belief to a new level. We’re not just providing food; we’re cultivating opportunities for everyone to access healthy, nourishing options while supporting local initiatives that make a difference.”

Empowering the Community

The BFC Cares program will focus on several key areas to support the community:

  1. Alleviating Hunger: The program will partner with local food banks and pantries to provide essential food items to those in need. Through regular donations and food drives, BFC Cares aims to reduce food insecurity and ensure that no one in the community goes without.
  2. Promoting Sustainable Practices: BFC Cares will work on initiatives that encourage sustainable food practices. This includes supporting local farmers and producers who practice environmentally friendly methods and promoting education on sustainable food consumption within the community.
  3. Fostering Community Resilience: By building stronger ties within the community and supporting local organizations, BFC Cares aims to enhance overall community resilience. This involves not only providing food but also nurturing a sense of unity and mutual support.

A Community Effort

The BFC Cares program is designed to be a collaborative effort. The Co-op encourages community members to get involved, whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word. Local businesses, schools, and organizations are also invited to partner with BFC Cares to amplify its impact.

“Community support is crucial to the success of BFC Cares,” notes Crawford. “We believe that by working together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps build a stronger, more connected community.”

Looking Ahead

As the Brattleboro Food Co-op embarks on this new journey with the BFC Cares program, it remains committed to its mission of nurturing a community where everyone can enjoy the benefits of wholesome food. The Co-op looks forward to seeing the program grow and evolve, continuing to serve as a cornerstone of support and empowerment for all.
