The GM Search Committee has been actively preparing for the hiring of a new General Manager to guide the Brattleboro Food Co-op into its next chapter.

Building on insights from our previous searches in 2021 and 2023, we’ve drafted a comprehensive job description and a stakeholder engagement process. The job description outlines the essential experience, temperament, skills, and knowledge required to lead a cooperative grocery store that serves as a vital part of the Brattleboro community.

Our stakeholder engagement process is designed to ensure that staff—both management and union members—have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the hiring process. This process also establishes a clear interview protocol, detailing each stage from pre-screening to the initial online interview with the Search Committee, and potentially culminating in a site visit and full Board interview. Each step specifies the questions to be asked and who will ask them. The search process is designed to be fair and equitable to all applicants, whether internal or external. 

At its May meeting, the Board reviewed the Committee’s progress and voted to proceed with the search once all materials are finalized. In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to staff to make sure their perspectives are reflected in the final job description.
