The Deli here at the Co-op is a very special destination. We’re rooted in the local downtown community and depended on by tourists, founding Co-op owners, and everyone in between, including our own team members across the store, for delicious nourishment. Everything from breakfast, lunch, and dinner, to a snack or something sweet, we have it covered. Our friendly and knowledgeable team in the Deli will greet you with a smile and serve you up some of the best food this side of the Mississippi.

We focus on using as much local, regional, and organic product as possible throughout the department. Did I mention we have the largest selection of eat-in or take-home scratch-made prepared and ready-to-eat foods in the Brattleboro/Windham County region?  That’s right! We are thirty-six team members strong, including veteran employees with thirty years here at the Co-op. How many places can boast about that?

Our kitchen is a “scratch” kitchen—that means most everything we sell and make is made completely from scratch—no box mixes here. If a product comes in pre-made, it has to be a locally/regionally made item. Our trained and skilled chefs and cooks are always whipping up something new and fresh. Speaking of whipping up, our trained pastry chef is always busy whipping up something sweet and delicious in our Bakery, from muffins to cookies, cakes, scones, pies, and brownies, oh my! The freshly baked selections are second to none.

Everyone is involved in recipe development and flavor choices—this is another great thing about the Deli at the Co-op: everyone has a voice in what we do and sell. Some good examples, which are aptly named after the team members who created them, are: the Sweet Caroline Smoothie, Beth’s Brownies, The Black Diamond sandwich, and Dano’s Edamame, to name a few.

Choices, choices, choices…. So many food choices.

  • Our own packaged Grab & Go items, sides, deli salads, dips/spreads, soups, assorted chef salads, pre-made sandwiches and wraps, and ready-to-heat meals on the go. Ask anyone about an item from the Grab & Go wall, odds are they will shout out the Sesame Noodles or the Roasted Tofu.
  • Packaged sweet treats like cake slices, BFC-made vegan and regular carrot cakes, gluten free sweet treats, whoopee pies, and cheesecakes.
  • Made-to-order smoothies.
  • Made-to-order sandwiches and wraps, breakfast sandwiches and bagels using locally-made fresh bread.
  • Our deli case filled with the largest vegan/vegetarian prepared foods selection around, as well as chicken, pork, beef, and fish entrée items as well, all sold à la carte.
  • Hot and ready-to-go sandwiches, from grilled cheeses, Reubens, The Melt, The Black Diamond, grilled cheese burgers…so many to choose from.
  • Fresh, hot rotisserie chickens for only $9.99.
  • Hot pizza slices from 11 am-7 pm with rotating flavors picked by the pizza cook on duty that day (they get full creative freedom to imagine topping combinations they love), as well as whole pies cooked to order. We have worked hard to make our pizza the best hot slice in town, selling as many as nine hundred slices a week.
  • Hot Bar foods for lunch and dinner with the menu created daily to be fresh and creative
  • Fresh, scratch-made soups
  • Salad Bar—with a focus on local and organic fresh produce and greens
  • Last, but not least, made fresh daily right in front of you: sushi, from Pangaea Sushi

Holidays/Events/Catering/Weddings—whether you pick up in-store, take home, or have delivered and served for you, we have all the bases covered here at the Brattleboro Food Co-op Deli/Bakery. Yes: we do cater weddings, and are actually booked solid for this calendar year. We are even catering for one of our very own managers who will be tying the knot later this year! Congratulations!

During the winter holidays, our store was closed so our team could enjoy some well-deserved rest after a busy year. However, we still made sure to give back by serving and donating meals to those in need. It’s something we’re really proud of, as not all stores take that extra step to support their communities like we do.

I can keep bragging about this team, but stop in and see and experience for yourself.
