The winner of the winning pound of cheese + a basket of accompaniments will be announced by Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024*.

Those who entered to win by filling out the “Cheese Madness” bracket will have the chance to win a pound of the winning cheese + a basket of accompaniments valued at $50+.

What to Expect

This year, experience 16 different local cheeses and vote on your favorites! Starting March 1st, stop by the Co-op from 12–4 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays to taste and vote on your favorite cheeses. It all takes place in the Cheese Department; you will be offered a ballot and a chance to taste these amazing Vermont cheeses.

Each tasting will reveal a winning cheese. Entries with the closest matching brackets will continue to the next round until a winning cheese is selected. If more than one perfect bracket is submitted in the end, a winner will be chosen in a random drawing of those entries.

How to play

Step 1:

Cheese Madness brackets were available through February 29th to complete and submit to be entered into our free “Cheese Madness” giveaway. Entries were asked to review the 16 cheeses and guess which one in each of the brackets would be the most popular among our shoppers during the cheese tasting in March. The entrants then would continue selecting winners for each match-up, progressing through each round (toward the center bracket) until they guessed the cheese champ. No purchase was necessary to enter.

Step 2:

All entries must have been completed and entered in the ballot box in the Cheese department by 8:00 pm on February 29th, 2024, to be eligible to win.

Step 3:

Please stop by the Cheese department on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout March from noon to 4:00 pm to sample that week’s entries in our Cheese Madness tournament. Sample each cheese and vote for the one you like best.

Step 4:

Winning cheeses will be posted in the Cheese department on Thursdays and Saturdays as the contest progresses. See how well you guessed our shopper’s favorites. They will be posted here and on social media on the following Tuesdays to view the prior week’s winner(s), and the cheeses to be sampled and voted on for the current Wednesday and Friday will also be posted. So bookmark this post or visit us on Facebook or Instagram regularly during March.

*If there is a day(s) when the Cheese Madness tastings cannot happen (i.e., weather, store closing, etc.), then the Cheese Madness event will continue into April, with the winner to be announced following the completion of Cheese Madness.

Each month we focus on identifying a local producer to feature in our monthly newsletter, Food for Thought and in-store. We conduct an in-depth interview, and feature photos, creating an article that reaches over 9,000 shareholders. We invite the producer to the Co-op to show off their wares through a demonstration or a tasting. We promote the producer and event through print materials as well as our website, Facebook, and Instagram advertising. This program is central to our cooperatively owned business.
