With much enthusiasm the Board of Directors announces the hiring of Lee Bradford as the Brattleboro Food Co-op’s new General Manager. Lee offers over 26 years of business management expertise in a variety of industries. He is incredibly excited to have the opportunity to work in a co-op setting, which he described as less about getting food from point a to point b, and more about serving communities. He added that Covid has given us all the opportunity to think about deep values and what’s important to us.

January Update from Board of Directors
The newly-seated Board has met twice now, and will soon be engaging in some team-building at our Annual Retreat, to be held via Zoom this upcoming weekend. The Board is looking forward to working with Store Manager Whitney Field as our interim General Manager.
GM Search Update January 2022
As we last reported to you in our , we were excited to bring in a candidate for the GM position in December. That individual, Peter Waldmann, visited Brattleboro and our store on December 8 and 9 and interviewed with both the management team and the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors voted unanimously on December 13 to offer him the position. Unfortunately for us, Peter has decided to go in a different direction: he will be the first general manager of a co-op start-up outside Chicago. We are happy for him and wish him well!
GM SEARCH UPDATE: DECEMBER 2021
We have not provided an update for a while, but we’ve certainly been busy! In October, the Committee met with a couple of staff members to get some “on the ground” perspective about what characteristics would be ideal in the next GM. Normally, due to the strictures of policy governance, Board members do not reach out to employees directly (“The only official connection of the board to the operational organization, its achievement, and conduct shall be through the general manager.” – Policy C.1), so this was a rare opportunity to get a window into staff sentiment that will help ensure our next GM will be a good fit.

Things are beginning to ramp up in the search for our new General Manager. Now that the profile of required and desirable characteristics , our recruitment consultant has been able to focus their efforts on finding us the right candidates. The Search Committee hopes to be conducting screening interviews later this month – stay tuned!
