Apple Tasting at the River Valley Kids Fair

Meet Lizi at this kids’ fair put on by the River Valley Credit Union (another cooperatively owned business in Brattleboro!) at the Brattleboro Common, next to the Retreat, to sample local apples and learn about Co-op kids’ classes for the fall. This fun event includes food, activities, games and more

Fun Foods from Around the World: Portugal

Caldo Verdé is a traditional Portuguese soup and the star dish on our culinary journey to Portugal this month. We will make this soup which calls for sausage, potatoes, cabbage and Swiss chard (the Vermont Harvest of the Month vegetable). Don’t worry, we will make a vegetarian version as well, so everyone can enjoy this delicious soup. Free Class for Kids: Summer in Vermont – Pickles

In this class, kids will learn how to make simple pickles using the bounty of summer vegetables and fruits available. Co-op tween Shoshana Davidovits will lead the way, sharing the recipe for her family’s famous sweet pickle relish. Fun with Food and Art: Summer Feast (for kids)

Meet us at the Brattleboro Museum first for an up-close look at the current art exhibit followed by a hands-on creative activity there led by Linda Whelihan. Making Tortillas, A Cross Cultural Dessert

Hey, Kids!  The Brooks Memorial Library will be hosting Lizi from the Brattleboro Co-op to teach you how to make fresh dessert tortillas. We will grind corn, make dough (masa), and shape and cook the tortillas to serve with fresh butter and maple syrup. Be sure to sign up at the library to reserve your spot ().  Takes place in the 2nd floor meeting room at the library on Thursday, August 9, 12:30-1:30pm.

Build a Lunchbox! Fridays with Katherine

We are packing lunch recipes the kids will love and be able to make and pack by themselves! Every Friday in August we will build and sample a different healthy lunch creation. Free Class for Kids: Salsa & Salsa

Using the bounty of summer vegetables and fruits, we will make some creative salsa to eat with chips. Then we will learn some traditional salsa dancing moves! BRAVO!! Free Class for Kids: Ice Cream Making – Shake, Shake, Shake!

Brattleboro: Bring a friend to make some home-made ice cream the old-fashioned way. We will use fruits which are in season now — strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and others.
