CLASS FOR ADULTS: COLOMBIAN EMPANADAS

In this class, our own native Colombian-born Lizi Rosenberg will teach us how to make a classic empanada dough using masa harina to make the pastry taste sweet and earthy. This corn-based ingredient is popular for making many other Latin American foods including tamales, tortillas, arepas and more. The class will make 2 kinds of empanadas, one sweet and one savory, using two kinds of doughs. Class Materials Fee: $6 / $4 Shareholders. Cooking Afghan Foods

Assad Akhlaqi will lead this class with the intention of bridging the Afghan and US cultures through food. We will make traditional Kabuli Pulao, a colorful dish including rice, carrots, raisins, meat and nuts, as well as other dishes served at Assad’s home during the spring holidays. INSTRUCTOR: Assad Akhlaqi, born in Afghanistan, came to the US as a child. He loves to share food with others as a way of building community and family. COST: $5; $3 Shareholders

Introduction to Sound Journeying

This class is an introduction to sound therapeutics (journeying). Sound is a tool used across cultures, religions and times to explore meditation, consciousness, and even healing. After a brief discussion, participants can experience the receiving of sounds such as gongs, singing bowls, and instruments.
